District Grand Prefect

District Grand Prefect's District Assembly Address

September 2016

Brethren,

I would like to welcome you all here today and to thank you for taking the time to attend this, the Sixth meeting of the Allied District Council in Spain. In particular I would like to offer special thanks to those of you who have travelled great distances from all over Spain for the extra effort and time you have given to attend this event. I hope all of you here today have enjoyed the ceremony.

A number of District Officers have retired today and I would like to thank them all for their service and dedication. I would like however to make special mention of W.Bro. Terry Porter who has decided to retired today as District Secretary. Terry has held this role for a considerable number of years and during that time gave wise council and unending support to District Councils. I especially, have benefited from his experience, advice and friendship and I sincerely hope that he will continue to play an active role within the District for years to come. Terry, thank you so much for everything you have done for me personally and the District as a whole.

W. Bro Ray Collins who, as you know, has been our District Treasurer ever since the District was created has made the decision that the time is right for him to serve the District in a different capacity and today he has become Past Senior Warden. As my first Treasurer Ray saw both myself and the District through its conception to where we are today, a financially healthy and robust District; this was not always the case in the early days. Thank you for taking care of our finances so well and in particular thank you for your unending support through thick and thin. I know that you will be an asset to the District and that you will help the Order to grow and prosper in every way that you can.

The shoes of these two Brethren have been difficult to fill. However, I know that in W. Bro Ian Crawford, who is now the District Secretary and W. Bro Eddy Bamford, our new Treasurer, I have two Brethren who will not only provide me but also the District with unfailing support and expertise. Thank you both for accepting and taking on the most challenging of roles.

May I offer my congratulations to all of the Brethren whom I have had the privilege today of awarding a promotion. I look forward to working with you all in the next year and I would like to wish you every success in your new roles.

On behalf of you all I would also like to offer congratulations to Stan Crawford and Peter Kent who have been awarded Allied Grand Rank and who will be invested at the Grand Allied Assembly to be held in London in October.

I would now like to thank all those District Grand Officers who have gone past today for all the help and support they gave whilst holding active roles. Their wealth of experience will remain invaluable to the District and I hope that they will continue to share their expertise with us all.

Membership has remained steady in most of the Councils in the District though sadly we did suffer a few losses which included the sad death of two long standing District Grand Officers and personal friends, Les Nobes and Ray Heath.

Two Councils, both in the South of Spain, have decided that due to having a small membership base which has been declining over a number of years that they wish to surrender their Warrant.  This is extremely disappointing and sad.  The District, however, has asked Grand Council for permission to hold these warrants in abeyance so that it would be easier and less costly to form a new Council within the District in the future.

A special mention needs to be made of all of those who have worked hard to arrange this meeting. In particular, I would like to express my appreciation for the work that has been undertaken by both the outgoing the District Secretary W. Bro. Terry Porter and the incoming District Secretary W. Bro. Ian Crawford. Their efforts have resulted in the excellent organisation of this meeting.

I would also like to thank W.Bro. Wyndham Neish for giving us todays lecture, and very ably it was delivered Wyn, thank you.

Well, I believe that is more than enough from me, other than to once again thank you all for taking the time to attend this meeting. I hope you continue to enjoy your masonry in the Allied Masonic Degrees and I wish you all an enjoyable festive board, good health and a safe homeward journey.

Barrie Roy Mansell,

District Grand Prefect
